Remus had a choking episode this morning. I was able to pull out the offending piece of meat pretty easily, but I was wondering if there are any videos or sources around on a ferret heimlich maneuver or something of that sort?

It was a long piece of meat that was already partway down his throat and he was having trouble separating it from the rest of the chunk, if that makes sense. It happened again today but I just let him do his thing and he did manage to cough it back up. He's giving me grey hairs...

this is funny but scary. when at the sliver stage without soup. I noticed that my ferrets were swallowing whole slivers of meat without chewing. a few times they would misjudge the size of a sliver and start hacking. I have never had to intervene. they have always worked it out themselves. some hacking was so violent that they bottle brushed themselves and ran into a corner to hide. It freaks them out as much as it does you, after a few of those episodes they started chewing their meat. don't worry They will learn.

One really good thing- meat is wet and slimy so getting it to go one way or the other is MUCH easier than had they choked on a hard dry piece of kibble that won't dislodge.
