So a few days ago I noticed my boy Caillou (who is about 4-5 yrs, based on his teeth.) was shedding, shedding a lot. I could run my hand through his fur and I don't get a handful of hair but it's enough to notice. I figured he was just shedding, but my girl Juliet, who I think is about 4-5 also (and has adrenal, but hair loss isn't one of her symptoms and she's on melatonin) and she's not shedding at all.
Caillou isn't acting any different, and he isn't going bald anywhere, but I can't help but worry. I was just wondering if this is around the time for ferrets to be shedding? Cai does tend to shed quite a bit when the seasons change and he also gains for winter and loses for summer, and my Juliet doesn't.

I think there must be an early Winter coming. Several ferrents have mentioned that they think their ferrets are getting ready for Winter. My Juliet has her seasons backwards, maybe your Juliet does also. I didn't know about the seasonal changes, when we lived in Florida. I never noticed Ponce (a champagne) change colors at all. Maybe I just didn't know to look. Maybe, because the weather never changed, he didn't. We never had a Winter there, just the occasional cool day. unclejoe or @ferreholic might know. They are in Florida.

That makes me feel better :thankyou:
My Caillou gets darker in the winter and lighter in the summer but nothing very noticeable. I only noticed because I was taking a picture recording his weight gain and compared to when I first got him. We get hit hard with winter here, got a good amount of snow last winter.

I got 3 with thinning tails. Smokie has blackheads and every time ive seen that it was a precursor to adrenal. He and Abita are only 2 yo for cryin out loud. Hopefully it is early shedding season. What with the polar vortex we had this year. I want this season to be early so i can see what Jaffa's des will do we gave him a melatonin implant yesterday to see if that helps. He's actually losing more fur off his butt. He got his suprelorin inarch

Rat tail isn't necessarily a precursor. I have had a couple with bad rat tail pass from other things and adrenal glands were fine.

Yeah my Neichei had rat tail the whole time I had owned her (4 years) and it only went away once for a few weeks then came back. Vet said some ferrets are just like that, she didn't have adrenal but she did have Insulinoma (just for 1 year)
