Miss Emily goes to the vet tomorrow to rule out any medical issues. She is eating/peeing/pooping well. However- she sleeps. ALL the time. Has zero interest in anything or anyone. Including her favourite tummy tickles, her other cage mates, nothing. She did have a really bizarre reaction to both Willow's and Frodo's bodies after they passed. She is literally the ONLY ferret I have seen attack her friend's dead bodies. She first dug at them like a carpet, then grabbed them by the scruff and shook the h*ll out of them both. In the interim she looks as though she were sick. I don't know whether to hope she is severely depressed by grief(and risk losing her) or to hope she has some serious medical issue

Hugs and Kisses to Miss Emily. It sounds like Willow and Frodo's passing really shook her up. Fingers crossed and hopeful thoughts sent your way.

Hugs to Missy Emily . Her reaction to her dead friends reminds me of Minion's reaction to the death of Yuri (photos were taken and posted in the article on death and friends). I too, had never witnessed a violent reaction before or since. I wondered at the time if it was the surgery smell (Yuri had been euthanized on the table, when a huge tumour had been found causing a blockage). Dr Lex had been very good about stitching him up so I could bring him home to Minion but you cannot get rid of the smell. Minion's reaction was to dig and then to scruff and shake...I was going to interfere but what I realized as I watched was that he was trying to wake Yuri, not hurt him. His also vocally cried. Minion had just lost Napoleon a few months before and Yuri who took Minion under his wing had now died too. Minion was about 9 months old at the time and his grief was heartbreaking to watch. After his death, Minion did nothing but eat and sleep (up to 6 lbs of ferret ). It wasn't until I introduced Atreyu into his life that Minion started to come around. Initially, I thought heart problems, he was after all an RC and they're notorious for heart conditions. Upon examining him the vet could find nothing physically wrong, his heart was surprisingly strong. Atreyu, was Minion's saviour, who taught him to live and love again. ciao

I hope Miss Emily is ok. We are in a similar position. The Boggle is so devastated by Ava's impending crossing & Cocoa's tedious health that they will barely play & many are crying tears every day. We are monitoring them extremely close to make sure that nothing serious is mistaken for grief.

Sending good thoughts that Miss Emily is physically fine and that she can work through her loss of her friends and find some joy in those still left to allow her to bounce back to a her usual self

I'm thinking depression Sherry. When Sneakers passed and I didn't bring her home, Socks didn't do much but sleep either. The only thing that changed that was bringing Wilma home.

Physically she IS fine. Vet agrees it is a case of severe depression. And it doesn't help that Suki has now decided Aristotle is more fun, or that he insists on being with Emily went she just wants to be left alone. She will start screaming and chittering at him and he rolls on top of her to pin her while avoiding the "pointy" end.

Poor thing. I don't know if this applies in the world of ferrets, but I know that in my darkest days, what helped me the most were cuddles. Didn't really matter who, I just needed that contact. Maybe Miss Emily would benefit from a pet sling- that way she can sleep if she wants to without being troubled by her cagemates, but she also has close contact with you.

It's going to take her a very long time I think Therese. And she will never be the same girl she was. They never are

Sending positive vibes that her heart can mend enough that she can find new interests and friends even if part of her will always be with her bridge buddies
