It definitely seems like it aged her quite a bit. I mentioned that to my husband a few times that her faced looked older right after the surgery too.
A question on heart. Can they have too much? Today was heart day and Nax just can't seem to get his fill. Quite the change from last week. he has had more than 2 oz of heart today and is acting like he is still looking for more instead of sleeping like I should be right now lol. He has some pork in his cage with him, but he is more interested in licking the bowl that had the heart in it.

It is simply another muscle meat So if he wants more, let him have it.

Sorry I haven't done my weekly update. I have pneumonia and my husband has been taking care of the meals for the last few days since he has gotten better. I know organ meat day got really messed up.

Hubby and I ended up in the E.R. tonight for the second time. My poor guys are getting very little out of the cage time because I don't want to risk them getting sick. However, I have noticed that they aren't eating much at all. I don't think they are sick but there has been a significant reduction in intake so I am going to cut back on what I offer them. Such as 1/2 neck each instead of a whole neck each and 1 wing for all 4 instead of 2 wings for all four.
Meals have had no planning at all this week and organ and heart meals have been very messed up. Hubby fed them but I have no clue who actually ate and what and how much.
Someone's poop has been very dry and lots of bone fragments so I think we need a little more muscle. Hopefully Monday I will be feeling better and can get weights and post my tentative menu for next week.

For now, just give them whatever and get yourself well. The appetites will be decreasing due to the changes happening(out of cage time, you sick, etc). Things will go back to normal after. Is there a room that can be made safe for them to be out in for 3-4 hours? That would help even if they just had some safe out of cage time.

Sorry sorry I haven't updated Hubby ended up in the hospital due to the pneumonia. He was just released today. I have been lucky and didn't get nearly as bad as he did. Life was so calm until I signed up for the mentoring program, and ever since it has been one thing after another.
After being caged for two days, I did take them on an outdoor adventure today to make it up to them. Especially since they ate all their liver!
I will post weights and our haphazard menu for the week tomorrow. There is no way they are going to let me weigh them tonight.

Take your time When sick, it can just be easier to stick with what works and not worry too much. Get yourself better and we can get to work then.

Despite all the crazy health stuff. The gang has been great with eating. In fact they don't even fight me on liver any more. Nax still prefers to be hand fed his liver and organ even though he doesn't require that I hand feed him. They got brain for the first time tonight and they LOVE it.

There are 7 in the rotation. This is pretty much a list of what meats I feed/have on hand all together.
Beef: Tail, heart and tongue(they don't like tongue so I don't try anymore)
Quail: Whole cleaned quail
Chicken: Necks, wings, feet, heart, thigh meat, gizzard and occasionally rib and spine type.
Turkey: Pretty much everything. except the legs and breast meat that we remove for our selves. (twice a year)
Duck: I get whole ducks for cheap so they have been getting a lot of duck. I currently have one I need to clean and section in my fridge.
Pork: Muscle meat, but this is my huge source of organ and heart meat.
Frog: Legs
I have also been adding egg yolk 2x a week max.
We are looking at adding feeder mice or guinea pigs 1 day a week in the future. I try to keep their diet as variable as possible and I am always looking for new things. I rotate between chicken and pig heart and kidney, pancreas and now brain so that it isn't the same every week.

And how are they doing with all the meats, and how comfortable are you with switching the menu up depending on what you can get?

Thought I replied to this. Must have been so sleepy I forgot to hit send.
I am very comfortable switching up the menu as needed. They are all doing well with all the meats. Of course they have their preferences, but they will eat everything I offer for the most part.
I am very lucky to have several ethnic stores near me so can get just about anything.
We did feeder mice two times this week.
The first time: Nixxie: Quick, clean kill grabbed the back of the neck and shook violently.
Nax: Grabbed behind the shoulder blades so intervention was needed.
Gerri: Want to play but wasn't sure what to do. Intervention.
Gilly: "Mice are friends not food." Ate her mouse the following morning though after I sliced open to expose the inside.
2nd time (tonight) was pretty much the same Only Nixxie ended up being used as our intervention where she quickly killed 3 so we only had to kill one. Gilly still has little interest but did eat the head off the mouse so far.
