I have an 8 month old ferret named Jasper whose fur colour has been changing a lot recently. I hear sometimes this is normal, but I noticed today he's been shedding a lot and losing his longer furs. I'm wondering if this is normal for the season, since I've never had a ferret prior to him. He eats EVO and he has for most his life, however my other ferret Jarvis hasn't gone through such a colour change more has he lost fur like jasper is loosing, however is shedding a little. So this is the changes he's seen. he acts the same as he always have, and so I'd like to think the changes are normal, but I thought I'd ask some more experienced ferret owners as he is my first ferret.

Will post tomorrow, but Suki went from a very dark hooded sable to essentially a DEW

Winter-summer coats can be drastically different. Not just in colour, but in length, coarseness, etc

Looks like a normal shed. Yoshi and Erika are two of mine that changed a lot during their first shed. Erika went from silver to chocolate over a weekend and yoshis mask was constantly changing his first year. As long as there is fur growing in and no bald spots its ok. Oh and when Poppy had her first shed she blew her coat in 2 days her bedding was full of fur, it was all over the house and she had a peach fuzz coat for 2 weeks. She kinda scared me until I read on a forum that that's not unusual

My younger ferret Jarvis who is around two or three month younger hasn't started a winter coat yet. in fact on the topic of normal colour change his coat sems to have gone from a silver to more of a sable since i bought him. It sort of looks like your ferrets colour is absolutely unpredictable. I thought ferrets colours set at arround 6 months but i guess not!

One thing too....this is also a kit going to it's more permanent colour, it's adult coat. It's the season for it to put on it's adult and winter coat. A lot of the farm ferrets are very unstable as far as their colour genetics go. The colour you have chosen may not be the colour you get as Sherry has pointed out. Another thing to note if your kit is 8 month old now, it was born in January, meaning the off season, the false season. Ciao
