How would I go about ferret proofing a recliner? We wouldn't have the chair in the ferret room, it would be in our living room, but I would love to let the babies be free roam eventually (with the exception of the bathroom and kitchen and laundry room) But, i'm worried about our recliner, even if it isn't in the ferret room and they only had supervised accsess to it, things happen. So i'd rather ferret proof it, so they don't! It's one thing if they dig at it, we can stop them before they really get in there, but how do we block off the mechanisms underneath so they can't climb in? We would always check for ferrets before we moved it in or out or anything but even just climbing around in it would not be cool Any tips would be great! Can my bf have his favourte chair and ferrets too?

Remove it.....I don't allow them in the house. More little ones have died in the crushing mechanisms of those chairs than in any other way. Put it in a room that your little ones are not allowed to be in, it's the only way. I had two, they went to the dump ciao

Your boyfr1end may not be happy about th1s, but ferrets and recl1ners are a dangerous comb1nat1on. L1ke Heather sa1d, recl1ners create alot of acc1dental ferret deaths. You can try googl1ng recl1ners and ferrets and see 1f anyone has found a way to ferretproof 1t, but short of putt1ng a ferretproof fence around 1t, 1 th1nk you w1ll need to take 1t away.

Hubby gave up our recliner--so sweet of him. No rocking chairs in our house either.

Agreed. It is absolutely impossible to ferret proof.

I recommend getting a playpen or baby gate that works for ferrets, depending on the room you have it in and sealing it away from them. My "dining room" off of my kitchen is my tv room with our two recliners. Since I also have a fireplace right there (another ferret no-no) I seal the area off with a playpen used as a fence.

Looks like it. I have 3 of the 11-panel fences.

I have a recliner in the room with her. When I first got it she wanted to hide underneath and would get in the springs and back, but after a month of me yelling at her and no treats the only time she goes near it now is to jump up in my lap or sleep on top at night.

Yes, it is a MF playpen. Doctor Fosters & Smith had it at a good price I think with free shipping or something.
I have to put weight at the base of the playpen because I have one ferret who grabs the panels in his teeth and drags them around. Luckily he only pulls, he hasn't figured out how to push yet LOL!

Hopefully your little guy doesn't pull hard enough to break his teeth. It may be worth wiping the bars with bitter apple to deter him biting it.
