So pretty much since bringing Remus home, he had almost constantly had small spots on him that he had opened from scratching. I had one biopsied and they weren't mast cell tumors or anything, just small injuries from overenthusiastic scratching. Over the past couple months we'd gotten them under control through allergy meds first, and then removing chicken from the diet entirely. This morning, though, I noticed a new spot on him. But it looks different than old ones. Instead of a dark scab it's white in the center. It didn't feel hot and it wasn't weepy, it was dry. It just looks so odd, I wanted to see if anyone thought it was enough of a concern to make a vet appointment. (For the time being I put sudocreme on it and left it alone otherwise.
I think the culprit is duck, as some strange poops and increased scratching started up about the same time as I introduced it to his diet. I'm going to try removing it from his diet for a week or two and see what happens.

Sorry, I always have trouble uploading images into the first post of a thread.

where on his body is he getting these? They look like the hives that Wilma gets when her allergies are acting up. Any other symptoms other than the scratching (swollen feet, swollen ears, loose poops or slight prolapses)?

He was having loose poops buuuut it was organ day so there's no way to know if it was an allergic reaction. I haven't noticed any swelling or prolapse. This one is on his side close to his front leg, almost in his 'armpit'.

You're right that doesn't look like a mast cell. If he responded to Benadryl then it is definitely allergy based. Out of curiosity is he also eating pork? Main reason I ask is Jason's Wilma appears to have an issue with something non organic raised meats are given. Pork and chicken were the two main culprits

It ended up being anything non-organic / antibiotic free Sherry. I mention pork a lot because that is one of the few meats I can easily get antibiotic free without having to resort to full organic.

He does have pig in his diet, Katt and I decided to switch to that from chicken when we suspected he was reacting to chicken. He doesn't seem to have any negative reaction to it. (And it is antibiotic free.) Is this something that requires a vet visit, or should it be okay as long as it doesn't look infected and seems to be healing on its own?

For now I would just keep an eye on it, unless it should signs of changing or bothering him. You could try some sudocream on it for faster healing.

Aw poor bud! You're right, it definitely doesn't look like a mast cell and obviously it's not if the biopsies showed that pretty conclusively. I hate to say it but it IS looking more and more possible that he has a poultry allergy. I wonder though if, like in Jason's girls, it isn't a reaction to the antibiotics that they are pumped full of... Keep your eye out for some antibiotic free, GMO free poultry...

You're going to be treating your wee boy for adrenal shortly, no? Or have I got your wee boy mixed up with another? If adrenal they sometimes get funky sores that once the adrenal is properly treated go away. It's just a thought ciao

He has a des implant as a preventative right now. It seems to be healing up fine so I'm not too worried about it. I will check and see if the duck I had him on was organic/antibiotic free, though I'm pretty sure all MPC meat is.

It sometimes takes a bit longer for some symptoms to disappear, others are noted within weeks ciao
