Lazar has been very sleepy for almost a week now. Will Only play for about an hour a day, other than that he only wakes to eat drink and poo.. his appetite is the same. Poo is normal. No lumps bumps or hair missing. Gums are pink, ears clean, eyes bright and not squinted. I just don't understand what is wrong. I have to physically remove him from the cage and even then he just beggs to be held. Even then he is going back to sleep. Is it time to see a vet or am I overreacting?

L1ttle Lazar does sound l1ke he 1sn't feel1ng well. Your brought home the new l1ttle g1rl, a few days ago. R1ght? Was he sleep1ng a lot then, or has th1s happened w1th the arr1val of the new l1ttle one. Aga1n, 1'm so happy that she was rescued.
1t's poss1ble that he could have p1cked up a bug, from her. My Roamy started sleep1ng a lot, r1ght after we brought home M1ka (a pet store ferret). 1 watched h1m to see 1f he was sulk1ng or just upset, and about a week later, h1s Poo turned dark and then green. We were also n the process of sw1tch1ng h1m off k1bble and onto FDR. So, 1t was e1ther a bacter1al overgrowth or ECE (green sl1me d1sease, eas1ly caught from other ferrets). A vet v1s1t and a course of ant1 b1ot1cs cleared 1t r1ght up.
1 would schedule a vet v1s1t. Even though, all looks good, you know your Lazar and 1f he's sleep1ng so much more, a vet v1s1t w1ll only help.

Bianca has been with us for about 10 days now. For the first 2 days I kept them apart in different areas to observe her eating and her stools as well as her behaviour while letting her get to know me. Then I introduced them in a bedroom where they had never been before. On day 3 I moved her cage into Lazars room with his cage where they could be out together. The first 2-3 days after, he played only with her, he took no interest in his toys, tunnels, pool, or dig box. When he was done playing with her he would come to me and paw at my legs till I held him, which is when I started to worry because he has never been the cuddle bug he is now nor has he ever demanded to be picked up and held. Now when I go to open the cage she wakes right up and is instantly ready to tear out of there and doesn't stop till I put her back in sometimes 6-7 hours later! I have to reach in to get him, hold him for a few min. Put him down on the floor and hope he gets motivated or else he will beg at my feet for me to hold him or go back into the cage on his own, eat, drink, poo, and lay right back down.. I just called the vets office I got an appointment for 8am. E.s.time. she was going to see him today but she has a couple surgeries scheduled for 4pm. I'm so upset. I love Bianca and I am so happy I have her but Lazar owns my heart. I can't bare to think there may be something wrong with my baby!

Hopefully, Lazar 1s just pout1ng a l1ttle over shar1ng h1s Mom. However, the vet v1s1t 1s a good 1dea. 1f he was upset over your l1ttle g1rl, 1 would expect aggress1on and not sleep1ng more. Please let us know what the vet says.

A vet check would be safest, just in case he has caught some bug from her (that she has built up an immunity to but still carries maybe, so she is healthy but he got it) but it is also possible if they are now caged together that she is playing all night (ferrets do naturally do more at night, my guys love mad games at 4am but I don't mind with my strange hours). If she is being go, go, go, all night, he may just want to snooze and cuddle during the day. When she calms a bit, or gets used to your hours, he may perk up again.

Well the vet visit was reassuring. Blood work and exam was normal, although she did say he is very large and slightly over weight for his age. She was intrigued by the fact that he refuses any type of food or treats other than the Marshall kibble, but is as large and heavy as he is. She wants me to keep an eye on his weight so he doesn't develop any kind of problems associated with obesity. She's guessing he may be an exception to the norm when it comes to activity level because even being in a new place with tons of other smells and noises he didn't get overly excited or stressed. So I guess that's good news for my fuzzy love.

He might be bored.. if the weather is nice, take him outside. Our local tractor supply allows pets on leashes, so I take my kids there to walk the isle. Its air conditioned and clean and they have TONS of fun checking everything out. Make him a dig box, rice, dirt, macaroni, leaves.. Give him towel rides, have him chase the cat toy, go for rides in the car. Make it a game, think of something new you can do with him once a week!

I would love to take them outside, but quite honestly I am really nervous about them going out because of fleas, ticks, and mosquitos. I cannot for the life of me find a vet within our great state of Ohio who will give the distemper vac. to ferrets and my vet even refuses the rabies on fuzzies! So I am nervous nelly about whether that should keep me from allowing them play time in the yard. Also at a toss up on the flea and tick meds. Not sure what to use on them since everything has such worrisome side effects! Any feedback on these issues will be greatly appreciated!

He had an awesome dig box until Bianca decided she likes to eat rice and poo it out whole. We do blanket/ towel rides as well as having 3 different teasers they can chase. We have made them slides out of 4inch PVC pipe and are currently working on a whole room tunnel maze mounted on the walls, made from corrugated pipe, it will be around 105ft all total. Today I fuzzy proofed the living room and allowed them to play there for about 4 hours while I worked on- rearranged their room. They both played today and Lazar never once begged to be held or fell asleep so I am thinking maybe boredom is the cause!

So glad to hear that he has perked up and it acting more like normal. There seems to be lost of posts about an ferrets acting lazy/tired when a new one is introduced. Hopefully now he is a little more settled with his new friend and more variety in play time he will be a super happy little boy.
