I know that once meat has been thawed, it cannot be re frozen and thawed again because it can make a human sick. Is this the same concept with ferrets? I ordered many different meat items from Hare Today and they arrived just very cold. I am assuming they were frozen. So once I portion them out and re freeze them, I want to make sure they are not bad to feed to my ferret when I let them thaw out again?

Nope you're good. She actually has a faq on her website about meat arriving thawed. Also remember that a carnivore s stomach is much different than ours, and while some things may make a human sick it probably won't make a ferret sick

For the record it won't hurt humans either...it just doesn't taste as good. We often freeze and thaw ferret foods, especially when bulk orders require repackaging. I get my turkey necks and hearts in 50 lbs frozen boxes. I thaw them in the tub, break apart into more manageable amounts and freeze them ciao

For the record it won't hurt humans either...it just doesn't taste as good. ciao This actually makes a lot of sense to me. I was brought up with the notion that refreezing, particularly, chicken was dangerous. As I got older though, I realised that nearly everything you buy has probably been frozen at some point for transit. I also began to notice that much of what you buy, if it is the stuff that has just been put out, not the older stuff, it often feels just thawed. So the not refreezing seemed like it couldn't be true because whatever you buy may have been frozen previously and you don't necessarily know. Even so, I still can't quite get past my upbringing for chicken. I got a big brick of wingtips given to me by the guy at Leonards (chicken place) and could not bring myself to thaw it to baggy it into meal portions. I basically separated it while frozen, by chiselling the wingtips apart and baggied those. All without it defrosting! You have to work within your own insanities!

Cool advice good to know. I had originally ruled out commercial raw frozen cat foods - the decent stuff, mainly due to the large portions but if I can thaw and re freeze then I can look at making smaller ferret portions then freezing the rest again until needed
