Puck went to the vet today, and got a clean bill of health. There was an unaltered hob in the waiting room, and I just asked a few questions (he stunk bad), and I guess he was in rut or something (I didn't ask). Puck HATED him. They didn't interact at all, both stayed in their carriers the whole time, but Puck went nuts. He was hissing and clawing to get out of the cage. He was proofed out and extremely angry... I had to walk him out of the waiting room until it was our turn to see the vet... Since I got Puck home, he's been peeing on things... Like dragging his pee pee around and dribbling pee everywhere! Even in ME!
I thought this behavoir only happened in unaltered jobs in rut?? What's my boy doing??

LOL.....oh wow....hormones are a wonderful thing...not. Puck is having hob envy. He will probably be fine once he forgets what he's missing out on. Remember our altered ferrets have seasons too, that's why they become adrenal, they just can't turn the process off. One thing I did discover about bringing in intact ferrets into a predominantly altered business is prepare for the more dominant gibbs to get all "pissy" and start claiming what they think is their property. Your feet, your blankets, your floors.....you get the picture. One the pheromones start to wear off, then you should get your boy back, if you don't you may want to see about an implant, remember adrenal happens and is happening even if there are no symptoms. What is your boy doing? pretending he's a hob. It should wear off in a bit ciao

I wish he wasn't altered and going to become adrenal most likely I think I could stand an intact hob, but it wasn't my choice. I'll just let him be the big bad hob he wants to be for now though At least it's not a problem!

Right now you've got the biggest gripe about an intact hob...their marking behaviour. Their smell is often what turns people off though and they stink. All this tones down to a degree once they get older but they're a royal pain for those first 2 seasons. ciao

I would never want to breed ferrets (I couldn't deal with the heartbreak of losing a kit), but to know that they're healthier because they're not altered would make me supremely happy. For now though, any ferret I get will be a rescue <3 They deserve a happy home after such horrible starts in life <3

I know people complain about the hobs being aggressive but I don't find them that way. Temperamental but not aggressive. Tico actually tells you before he's going to nip you (he will draw blood every time). He trills, it's a high pitched annoyed sound. You can't mistake it. The B & E twins are loveys.....you can do anything with them...anything as long as you're paying attention to them. I've got 3 hobs right now and Radagast will be 4 come next Jan. I love them. They do smell a bit ripe at times, I do rinse the silly sods in clear water if they're really ripe. Tico likes taking a shower...it's not cool to watch the shower water turn yellow as it goes down the drain . Quite often he's quite content to puddle around in there until the water runs clear. I then pull him out and give him a towel to play in. The issue is the marking. I should own shares in paper towels and I hate standing washing the dishes and getting slimed. Hobs believe in oozing over your foot and the wetter they are the longer they ooze. Basically, you've been claimed * What I love about them is they love to be loved, snuggled, cuddled and handled. They're big, boofy cuddle bugs ciao

See? I think I could handle that! Haha I had a few stallions when I was younger, and BOY do those guys get possessive and temperamental. Also had an intact Tom for awhile, and he sprayed like crazy. Ferrets just need a little extra water when they get oily Tico is one of the Poleys right? I LOVE the look of the Poleys! <3 If I were just a tad more crazy if find some breeders willing to let me adopt a poley hob <3 Hubby says no more fuzzies for now though, so I'll respect those wishes <3 Plus, I think Puck is a bit of an only child! He has to be put in his cage or room when I'm holding, and feeding my son. He doesn't like me giving attention to anything but him
