I the nest time we do a des implant we're going to try to get lupron a month prior. The two ferrets we've treated that way responded very well, but the last two, Poppy and Jaffa, did not have lupron first and we've been disappointed so far. I'm actually going to look in to lupron for Jaffs this week. We'll be giving him a melatonin implant tomorrow.

I'm so happy that he's feeling better! My Juliet was very sluggish too then a few days after her implant (melatonin, working on getting des) she went from playing for 20 minutes a day to 3-4 hours. Amazing what implants and meds can do for our sweet fuzzbutts

That is so fantastic. I'm so happy for you both. Isn't it awful how subtle this disease is?! Often you think it's just age. It's not until you give the lupron or the DES and all of a sudden you have your ferret back. ciao Yeah I'm suspecting that the subtle signs have been going on for a few months and I just didn't notice until I was done school, then I noticed the decreased energy but didn't really suspect anything until he lost the hair. Anyway I'm really pleased that he's getting his old energy back, we'll be continuing with lupron and may switch over to the DES implant in a few months. This was supposed to be part of a "trial run" of Lupron so basically just waiting for the vet's opinion on the results of the treatment.

Amazing what implants and meds can do for our sweet fuzzbutts I know! And not just for them either, one of my cats was also diagnosed with Idiopathic Cystitis same week Rolo was diagnosed with adrenal (which really sucked for my bank account) and I'm just so glad I live in the modern age where medicine is as effective as it is. My cat is on antidepressants to help with her stress & spraying everywhere.... I ordered her a cat cage/playpen on amazon so that we can do litter box bootcamp and I'm pretty much just laundering everything every day.... blegh.

I think the DES implant is slower to work, that's why my vet wanted to try Lupron first to see the quicker results with him before deciding to switch to DES or continue with Lupron.

I had noticed Judge slowing down, but again he is getting older. It wasn't until he was flat ferreting every minute or so that I thought to test his bg at home Now he is being treated for his insu he is his old self again!
