I'm currently switching my two ferrets over to raw, they had chicken grind and smashed duck wing mixed in for last nights meal, this morning some was left, they both ate some more this morning before I removed it. one of my ferrets had just throw it all up and I'm worried ? I have a mentor but I really need some advice on this sooner rather than later if possible please ?

Sometimes, they just eat too fast or something is a little too rich for their tummy. Was this the first time, that they had this mix of chicken grind and duck? AbbyLee will check in soon. Don't worry, I bet he will be fine.

Ah ok yes this is the first time he's eaten the duck, trying to get them eating bone so smashing wings up and mixing with the grinds twice a week, so must have been the duck Thank you I panicked because I have never had a ferret chuck food up before and I have kept them for years, they have always been on kibble, so this kinda freaked me out lol! Thank you

You are Welcome. It can be scarey, anytime the little guys do something, out of the norm. I rushed my first ferret to a vet, because he was hacking and he just had a little fur caught in his throat.

I second eating too fast, or even swallowing a chunk just a bit too large. Not uncommon as them eating is also a learning curve Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yes he was a sleep then just shot of his hammock and vomited it was sometime after he ate but I think it was a case of eating to fast as suggested as he ihas been absolutely fine since and has eaten a small amount tonight.

If it was that long after that wasn't eating too fast. That happens virtually immediately. He could still have had something like a hair get caught in his throat causing it though. Sounds like whatever it was, it was a one time thing Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Oh right, it was the first time he has eaten duck, could it have been a reaction to duck maybe ?

No- reactions are MUCH more extreme. He would have been projectile vomiting for 15-20 minutes as well as having projectile diarrhea.

Ok thank you, that's good because he likes the duck and it's the first new protein he has actually eaten straight away without any problems :-) perhaps he got a little bit of bone that irritated his throat or the fur like you said, either way he hasn't done it since I will keep an eye on him but he seems fine thank you

Is he coughing first? How long after going to sleep? As with anything when in doubt vet

No coughing just got up about 10 mins after being a sleep and threw up, he seems absolutely fine in himself, running around being his usual crazy self. If this becomes a regular thing then I will take him to see the vet

Is he shedding, how often is bedding changed, etc? As this is happening after he's been in a hammock I am wondering if he isn't inhaling a bit of fur or something.
