My ferrets are currently on kibble. I have heard a lot about raw diets and I am interested in learning more and starting them up on a better diet. I've searched througj some threads on here and searched on Google but I haven't found recipes.
Also, maybe I'd want to start by supplementing kibble with raw but how will I know if I'm keeping their diet balanced?
Any help would be appreciated!

Hi Jasmine Go to Diet-> raw feeding-> raw soup. After that, in the same board is a thread called basic frankenprey menu. Also read through the mentoring threads. Those will give you a lot of ideas as well Then again- you could always sign up for the mentoring program

Hi Jasmine. I bumped a kibble chart and a raw soupie recipe to the top of new topics. You can take a look at that and the kibble chart for recommended kibbles. If you are interested in raw feeding, you can join the forum and after 15 posts, you can then sign up for a mentor. A mentor will walk you thru the switch and help you make sure that your little guys get a balanced diet. I hope to see you around the forum. Good Luck.

Hi Jasmine! Just a thought: if you feed kibble and raw together, that defeats the purpose...;-) Also raw and kibble digest very differently, so you may end up with upset stomach, diarrhea...etc. There's a really good group of people here who will help you every step of the way of the switch! Our mentors have been doing this for a while, so you'll be in good hands.

Just respond on various threads The main reason is to show some sort of commitment as I cannot count the number of times we have held a spot open for someone who never posted more than their app and left other more active members waiting.

For example, debra, when you typed your question in about posting, that is a post, if you had been signed in as a member it would have counted as one post. As I am signed in as a member, this counts as a post for me. If you look in the box beside this post there will be a count of how many posts I've made and it increases with each post you make. So when you join and are signed in, to get your 15 posts, all you really need to do is find cute pix people have posted of their ferrets, go down to the quick reply box, type awww, cute and hit the post quick reply button. Do that 15 times and your at 15 posts...or ask questions you may have, do that 7 times and say thanks when you get an answer and you'll be at 15 posts, super easy!

H1 Ashlyn and Welcome to the HFF (wave)
Here on the forum, we w1ll always prefer the raw d1et to k1bble. How old 1s your soon to be, ferret? Ferrets 1mpr1nt on the1r food from around s1x months to a year of age. 1f you are gett1ng a baby, your l1ttle one w1ll truly benef1t from be1ng on raw and get off to a n1ce healthy start. 1f your new ferret 1s older, we can help you make the sw1tch from k1bble to raw.
1f you plan on feed1ng k1bble, we can also help po1nt you 1n the d1rect1on of a better qual1ty k1bble. Feed1ng both k1bble and raw can be tr1cky, m1x1ng the two 1s not a good 1dea and can lead to bacter1al overgrowths.
Take a look on the Home Page under Natural D1et, and look at the bas1c Frankenprey menu. There 1s also adv1ce on feed1ng whole prey. 1f you jo1n us, you can s1gn up for a Mentor, who w1ll walk you thru a sw1tch and help prov1de support and gu1dance.
Have you had Ferrets before? They are compl1cated l1ttle ones, super smart and very lov1ng. They need a lot of enr1chment and st1mulat1on. And don't let anyone tell you that Cheer1os and Ra1s1ns make good treats. Ferrets are carn1vores, and the1r l1ttle bod1es aren't set up to d1gest fru1t and vegg1es or gra1ns.
Have fun w1th your new l1ttle one and 1 hope to see you around the forum (dance)
