I have 2 cats, a 4 year old overweight cat named Marbles, and a new 3 month old kitten named Milo, who was a barn kitten and is a little on the skinny side.
Here's what they are eating right now:
Marbles: 95% Wellness Grain free WET food (different protein every day) and 5% Orijen Cat and Kitten (something to snack on when she wakes me up at 3am and won't leave me alone)
Milo: 95% a mix of marbles' canned food and Wellness Kitten / Wellness CORE kitten and 5 % orijen cat and kitten
The problem is that Milo would way rather steal Marbles' adult cat canned food than eat his canned kitten food...
Which got me thinking... Is this bad?
I mean... Why do they make kibble for different life stages when cats on a raw diet eat the same thing regardless of their age?
And what really baffles me is... How is it that Orijen dry is both cat AND kitten food?
is this whole "life stages" approach that kibble companies take a scam then? Or does my kitten actually NEED to be eating kitten food?
Plus I've been having a really hard time finding GOOD quality canned kitten good at a decent price. The Wellness kitten version only comes in a tiny can and is almost $2, whereas I pay $3.50 for a huge can of the adult kind.
I'm actually contemplating switching them to freeze dried raw. I know it will cost a lot but I'm spending so much on wet cat food right now, and it would REALLY help Marbles lose weight. and they could both eat the same thing right?
Plus they won't touch commercial raw and I do not have the time or energy to switch cats to Frankenprey right now.
But I have to budget first.... So in the mean time...
Does Milo really need the kitten food? Or would he be okay eating more of the adult wet food?
I feel like this is some sort of kibble company marketing ploy... But maybe that's just me
