if your ferret likes to jump or climb you might be out of luck with the play pen

The cat-sized Furminator works just fine for us and I've had it a few years. Got it for my kitty when he got too old to groom himself and now I use it to help remove shedding undercoat. Just make sure you don't press down too hard since the blade is sharp and it could hurt their skin. As for the playpen, I'm happy with it. My climber can't get over it, my little girl can't squeeze through it, but my chunky boy can push it so you may want to put something heavy next to it. I got a mat, too, but I don't really use it. It'd be useful if you didn't have anything to keep them shaded but when I take them outside, I just put them under a tree. And if you wanna use it on the floor to prevent accidents....well the playpen can only be a circle when you use it and you may want it to be a square or rectangle. I just use an old blanket.

Thanks guys! I still haven't been able to find an ample sized ferret play pen anywhere... is there alternatives? Like a dog pen with smaller slots?

I believe the Marshall's playpens can be hooked up together to create a larger one. I know they were selling them in Petland at Westhill's a while ago, but not sure if they still are or not. Give them a call

Give them a call I was there today and they didn't have them I'll have to call some other petlands and maybe check out Pisces for them, I'm thinking they might be handy to have.

Actually, you can have the pet store call around for you That's how we got our first ferret nation! They were out at the Petsmart we went to, so they called around and found one for us

I just wanted to mention that I use Yesterdays News, and actually didn't know about the clumping litter till this thread (I've only had Jude a week) but that's great to know. I don't have many complaints with Yesterdays News, it works for the most part but I do tend to go through a lot trying to make sure I have got all the pee out, it doesn't really "look different" when he pees on it, it just turns darker, I usually end up dumping the whole litter box out and refilling it just to make sure I got it all. That's really my only complaint, oh and it's a pain when Jude tosses his chicken thigh in there... that's a mess to clean. Otherwise I don't mind the Yesterdays News.
Ohh... and unless it's at Walmart, I will most likely have to keep him on Yesterdays News, since I am limited to where I can shop and have to order online from ferret.com, my husband prefers not to register at several websites just to get one product.
Do they have either of those two clumping cat litters at Drs Foster and Smith? I'm going to go check.

Petco and petsmart usually have it online. Amazon.com does too I believe. Get the multiple cat formula for either, they're best

Well I went to a different grocery store to order beef heart, and I realized they carry both the SC and WB [both the reg and multiple cats] so now I have to choose which one I'm going to try. I want the one that costs less as far as price and how much I'll go through... Yesterdays News is cheap but yes, I go through too much of it, too quickly.
So now I'm going to spark the debate... Both litters are comparable in size (as far as price per pound) but for those of you who have used both, which did you use less of? Why? Which kept the odor down the most? This isn't as important as the previous question since I clean my litter box at least once a day and completely dump it every other day.

I have no advice for a comparison, but I'll throw in my experience with WB. Love the smell of it dry, controls odors rather well. Flushable. I clean my box 1-2 times a day, dump entirely every 2 weeks. A bag of WB (17 lb I think) lasts me a month. I've heard good things about Swheat

Thanks Jackie! I'm still on the fence which to try first.

I just bought swheat scoop, but I haven't tried it yet. We've switched to newspaper lining the boxes at home, and the litter is for my boyfriends place. The newspaper is great! Free, and easy to change. Just lift it out everyday and replace. Wash the box every so often. Easy and free.

I too am torn over whether to buy World's Best Cat litter or Swheat Scoop... Swheat Scoop is cheaper and you get more in a bag, but I've heard such good things about World's Best...
