For those who would like to know whether or not they have a message when they come onto the forum, or even while you are on the forum, go to messages-->settings-->"Would you like an alert box to notify you when a new Personal Message has arrived?" and change the box to "yes".
That way, you'll have a pop up notification of a new personal message.
