praying the surgery goes well, I'm very impressed that your vet actually gave him mice with out makeing the vet do so! Hooray for a vet that's pro raw and whole prey!! I don't see why feeding raw would cause any problems...

I don't see why raw would be a problem. Please ask the vet to put him on antibiotics I am sure he has an infection. I would DEFINITELY get him a des implant. It is not at all uncommon for those tumors to grow back after adrenalectomies. I had my baby implanted with des at 5 months. It sounds like things are looking up. Fingers crossed for you guys. When I read your post that he peed today I literally had a smile from ear to ear! . What a strong little man you have there.

I would get him a des implant. I've only had one experience with a ferret who's prostate was becoming blocked. He was peeing several small puddles and I could tell he was straining, I got him des and within a week it stopped.
Can't hurt him, might help keep that other gland healthy for a while.

I think honestly with this vet, it's just more that they really don't know much about them so they are just taking me at my word, I feed mice so ferrets must eat mice.
Although at the e vet last night, they asked diet and when I said raw they "tested" me a bit, asking if I was feeding veggies and fruits or what and seemed quite relieved when I said meat and whole prey, they wanted to know if I got them frozen or what. They rated his body condition score 3/5, I have no idea if that's good/bad? He was dehydrated, but they said in good shape besides that.

Yes, my vet had brought up antibiotics as well, I think the local vet just wanted to stick to very simple stuff rather than screw it up but he will be going on them tomorrow for sure. I will ask to do the des as well. I woke him up to check on him a little bit ago and he seems to be straining a bit, but is producing pee, I don't know if it's just pain from infection or all the caths being stuck up there or what but he's not actually blocked. He went right back to his normal trouble making and escaping but tuckered out pretty fast and took a nap. I'm just glad he's still with us and hope that the surgery goes fast and easy and well tomorrow, this will be the 4th time in 3 days he's getting put under.

Are you still going with the surgery? If you're not, might I suggest lupron for a couple of months. I do this for 2 reasons. Lupron works immediately, whereas des does not. It takes approx 2 to 3 weeks for most symptoms do disappear using the des implant. The second reason is that des takes about 2 to 3 weeks to be shipped from New Zealand "if" they have the product in stock (stock has been intermittent). This would protect your little fellow until you can get the des. If you are indeed going to do surgery then definitely....good luck, and my thoughts are with your little one. His healing candle is lit. Take care, please keep us posted. ciao

Heather we are going down for surgery this morning, the vet already has des in stock, he was supposed to get it this following Friday anyways and he did get a lupron shot last week. I just don't know if lupron is working anymore for him, he's been on it about a year and just lately started having issues again.

Good thoughts for Pip...
I remember telling my Trick that if he got through this, I would never be mad again if he missed the litter box, I'd just be happy he went at all!

ah, I see. No, unfortunately, there appears to be a limit as to the ability of these drugs to stave off the disease. Good luck, his healing candle is still lit. Please keep us posted ciao
