Question - if I wanted to put foraging materials inside a dig box full of packing peanuts, are they likely to chow down on the peanuts? Probably. However if you get biodegradable packing peanuts they should be okay because they dissolve when wet and wont cause a blockage if accidentally eated.

Just make sure they don't get into a habit of eating them, because starches aren't good for ferrets in general.

Has anyone tried stashing treats in those cat scratch disks made of rolls of cardboard? It would let them dig and find treats at the same time.

How do u make the scent in a scent bucket? I know sounds like a stupid question. I just don't wanna do anything to make my Sophia sick.

What kind of treats do you use for foraging treats?

I use Freeze dried raw treats. There are several good products out there. Stella and Chewy's feline version has nuggets that are dried meat. Whole life does also. I also buy Freeze Dried turkey and duck hearts. You can look on Amazon and see all the choices, just make sure that it's 100% dried meat with no added starches, fruits or grains. Avoid already made jerky (from China), but you can also make your own. holisticferret60.proboards.com/thread/5840/home-freeze-dried-jerky-treats

Question - if I wanted to put foraging materials inside a dig box full of packing peanuts, are they likely to chow down on the peanuts? Try using starch peanuts instead of Styrofoam peanuts, that way, if they chew on the starch peanuts it'll just break down & get soggy... also edible.

One of my friends puts rice in a carboard box and lets her ferrets dig into it, no treats needed since according to her they have a lot of fun in there hahaha
I haven't tried it with mine, I'm a little worried he might eat some of the rice if he tries to fight with it lol

I made a maze out of some old cardboard boxes and my two LOVE it. They will spend hours going in one side and out the other, I even throw some freeze dried chicken in to let them forage

I just made a rice box for River yesterday and put some toys in there. She's not too terribly keen on toys but loved digging in the rice and so far isn't interested in eating or pottying in it. Yay!
Would be appropriate to get some freeze dried bits of heart to stash in there for her to find?

I know that this is an old post but I came across it on the new website, what kind of treats do you all use or if you could send me the link to a thread that I'm pretty sure is out there and I have looked for but can't seem to find. Sorry if it's an inconvenience to anyone. But when I adopted Marly and Zen a few weeks ago they were being fed Blue Buffalo cat food I have attempted to give them raw meat but they wouldn't eat it and it's very frustrating since I want to give them whats best for them! :pullhair: anyways . I would really appreciate the link for the homemade treat thread. :thankyou:

I notice that a lot of people are mentioning toilet paper rolls, and I would like to provide a warning.
My little guy was playing around in a box full of rolls that I had saved up for him. Next thing I know, he had pushed his head into the roll by running into a wall and could not pull it back out; the fat and flesh on his neck just bunched up. I had to tear the thing from around his head to get it off. Then, I spent a good ten minutes having to remind him to breathe while he lay in my lap. It was terrifying, and we don't let him around them anymore.
