At the vets right now, and the vet is not Dr. Perez, unless that's shortened from something longer. She immediately put gloves on for the 'human health concern that raw feeding presents' and said its not a recommended diet. Kind of irritated, but hopefully she knows what she's doing.

The vet is very worried about juvenile lymphoma. More xrays are being done right now. Should I ask for an aspirate to be done? What are the options if she does have JL? I know its very aggressive, so I'm not even sure if prednisone would help? I'm very nervous.

My ponce had lymphoma, however he was almost 7. some of the questions, i learned to ask were about the prednisone, what dosage? is it prenisolone (which is easier for the little guys..does she usually work with ferrets (mine did not, not a good thing) what follow ups will they do, ask about his spleen, ask about his lymph nodes. see what she says about hind leg weakness (that should give you a hint about her basic knowledge. i'm just trying to think of something quickly, since you are there now. hopefully, the more experienced ferrents will weigh in quickly. write everything down, if you can. when you get home, you can check up and research stuff. right now, emotionally, its hard to remember everything.

She seems knowledgeable, but I haven't heard of anyone else seeing this vet with ferrets yet, which is why I'm nervous. The clinic is busy so xrays are taking a long time. I asked about doing an aspirate but she said that they normally come back nondiagnostic because there is too much fat in the way. Is this true?

We decided on doing prednisolone. I'm hoping some other ferrants can chime in and give opinions on if we should be doing more diagnostics? The vet apparently emailed the xrays to Shelby amd she agreed that she thinks its lymphoma and to start the pred. I have the xrays so I will post them later tonight when I'm on my computer. Our vets name this time was Dr Palacios. We are doing 1ml of pred every 12 hours. The concentration is is 5mg/ml.

It happened to me with Sneakers about the same age and I'd only had her for three months. I am so sorry, I was absolutely devastated. Socks is her sister from the same litter and is as healthy as a horse. It's just genetic roulette unfortunately.

Oh gods, I am so very sorry I don't know the vet you've seen. I do know Shelby has made certain all her vets are ferret savvy. And if she says it's likely JL, odds are it is

I am so sorry to hear this.
I may be remembering wrong but I thought there was someone on here who had 3 ferrets, one who was diagnosed with Lymphoma and they have managed through some miracle that last I heard she was still doing ok with the treatment they did. I can't remember her name but can picture the ferret, her siggy had a pink colouring. Does anyone know who I mean? Think all 3 ferrets were girls, one was possibly named Lyla

Therese - Lymphoma and Juvenile Lymphoma are different. The Juvenile form is usually much, much, more aggressive.

I'm so, so incredibly sorry. I can't even believe this is happening. And only being 9 months old! So young, so very tragic..

Actually the ferret Therese is talking about does have Juvenile Lymphoma. The owners name is Sandra and her ferret Meeko was diagnosed with juvenile lymphoma quite a while ago... Like almost 2 years now I believe. Meeko was not even a year old at the time. She has been on prednisolone ever since, as well as raw. Now, for her, the cancer was found in her intestines, not her lymph nodes, so this could be why. But as far as I know, she is still alive and well. But this is unfortunately the exception, not the rule. I'm so sorry you are having to deal with this

I created another thread labelled 'Juvenile Lymphoma' to keep better track of her condition. I put the x-rays on that thread, and am hoping that some people might be able to take a look at them. I am also hoping for some expert advice on any other treatment methods I could use to help slow her condition. Thanks so much everyone.. I will have to start making and fulfilling a bucket list for her. I hope we have a couple months left, but we will see I suppose
