Hi Sherry It has been going well. Zeus seems to be eating the kidney/chicken soup well. Cyrus does eat some but it usually has to be spoon fed to her and she doesn't eat as much as Zeus does.

Not to worry- I had to spoon feed liver/kidney soup for a year ;D Okay- can you write me up a menu on what they are eating?

Wow I hope she doesn't need to be spoon fed that long!!
They are getting chicken wing every morning, and in the afternoon I haven't been doing meals in the exact same order each week but throughout the week in the afternoon they get
1 heart meal 1-2 liver meals 2-3 kidney/chicken soup meals 1-2 bone meals
The number of liver meals and soup meals depends on how many meals it takes them to eat all that they need each week. I try to do 2 bone meals but if liver or soup takes more meals then I will replace bone meals with whatever they still need to eat that week. Make sense?

I think I get it ;D Morning brain happening here- not enough caffeine in me yet ;D Okay, what you ultimately want to do is a minimum of 3 different proteins(what are you feeding now), preferably more. 8-9 bone meals a week. Looks like you have that. 3-4 muscle meat meals, one of which HAS to be heart. You've got the heart, but not the other muscle meals. One meal liver/organ(or split up however you like it). You've got that. Is it approx. 2oz each liver/kidney? You could likely do that over 2 meals in one day. Just add in some eggshell powder or bone meal to firm up the stools. From what I'm seeing all you need to work on is getting more variety in there.

Ok good!
I thought that the chicken in the soup would count for some of those muscle meat days? Is that OK.
And yes, when I give liver, they get 4 oz total and when I make the soup I am adding 4oz total, mixed with about one chicken breast.
I know that they do like turkey and beef so I will try to add more of that into it. Other than chicken wings and turkey wings, I don't have much other bone to give them. Steph recommended some other options but I haven't been able to find any of them. They did LOVE the turkey neck that we were originally giving them but unfortunately it was getting stuck in their teeth sometimes so we had to stop that.

As they become more accomplished at eating bone they should have less and less trouble with that. And with the soup, if you can cut it down to one meal a week just to keep them used to it. You want them chewing as much as possible. That's why I buy the cheapest cuts I can find ;D Something else you can give instead would be pork chunks.

Oh yes I forgot to mention that they also like pork belly slices a lot!! So can I continue to give them the turkey neck? This week I can try to cut the soup down to one meal, I will add less chicken to it

How long since they had trouble with it? I'd give them at least a month, preferably two, to build up experience and jaw strength.

Sounds good in the interim keep giving things like chicken and Cornish hen so they keep building up jaw strength. Can you get duck neck by any chance? That's a bit harder than chicken neck but not as tough as turkey neck.

I haven't been able to find cornish hen yet.
I haven't looked for duck neck but I can see what I can find. We have a farmers market that we go to on some weekends, maybe there.

Also look in your local grocer's for pork rib ends. Those are soft bone and cartilage. My guys love them.

Last week it took me 3 meals for them to eat their soup. I put less chicken in, so it was only supposed to take one meal but they just weren't eating it for some reason. I am going to try it again this week because I think they were just having an off week or something.. usually it isn't that hard for them to eat it!
What do you do if your ferrets don't eat all that they are supposed to in a week? I had to skip a bone meal and muscle meal so that they would have more time to eat the soup. Is that ok, once in a while?
