I just lost my Big E'Nuff yesterday. I wish I would have read this first. I had thought about letting his mate say goodbye but in my own grief I just wanted him to be safe in the ground. He loved it outside. I am keeping an eye on her and giving her hugs. It was very hard seeing her chattering and looking all over for her friend. I don't want to lose her too.

I am so sorry you've lost your wee one. Pick up some Bach's Rescue Remedy. It's helped ours tremendously.

Thank you heather for writing this. Having just said goodbye to one of ours, I have been looking for ways to help the others cope and your well written post is exactly what I needed to help deal with it all and figure out how to help my babies, Thank you.

this was very difficult to read, how you managed to write it is beyond me. I just kept crying the whole way through

I haven't lost anyone yet, but Libby had it spot on. Cried the whole way through. Not even sure how you put it all down, but thank you. I am absolutely terrified of the day when someone passes. My oldest,Mo-Mo, is 3, and he is my sick baby. I may have a minute or two wih him, but with how quickly he gets horribly sick, I would be surprised if he made it to 6.

Brought tears to my eyes; was very hard to read but I am grateful you wrote it and this information is out there. After reading, I just do not think I will be able to ever have more than one ferret at a time. With other pets, I have never seen this kind of grief in death; ferrets are beautiful creatures inside and out.

bless your heart, this is very helpful~ we recently thought of taking a 5th ferret who had lost her cage mate of 5 years, and her single mom at the time really wanted her to have a better life, more play time, etc...so we brought her to our home, separate cage, all that stuff, she had several issues, adrenal, cancer, gum disease, so sad, we really thought we could help, but after about a week we had to call her original mum to take her back, she was just lifeless, hiding, not eating, whimpering and possibly crying, it gave me nightmares...after we returned her to her original home she seemed very different, surely glad to be back with her original human

They bond so closely with their humans in many cases. For her she lost everything when she went home with you. First her cagemate, then the only thing left that she loved. Thank you for recognizing that.

I know this is an older post, but I was searching how to deal with grieving when you lose a fuzzy. And this just... I never knew that ferrets could grab hold of your heart so tightly and never let go.
<3 This was beautiful.

Man... I lost it and wept while reading. I've lost dear animal friends, but have never seen the mourning of these pure little darlings. I'm relatively new to ferrets, but I find myself getting more and more deeply connected to them. I dread the day we lose one.

I have grieved the loss of all my animals. But none have ever devastated me like losing a ferret.

I have grieved the loss of all my animals. But none have ever devastated me like losing a ferret. Yeah. They take a lot of effort and they are just so cute and loveable. I've had at least a dozen different critters and ferrets are the heart stealers. Heck, they steal everything else...

Hello Heather, Thank you for the post. Recently, my ferret, Ernest, passed away. Everyone in my family tried to get Ernest's body back, so his bond-mate Elliott could see. But my father was the one who paid for it, and told them to cremate him before we could get the chance. By the time I had called the cremation services, it had been too late. Elliott can't see his body anymore, and she's constantly searching for him. We're all torn up about it (except for my father). Is there a way to let Elliott know her furry friend has now crossed the rainbow bridge?
Thank you
