Ive been looking at getting a new cage for my fuzzies and I came across cube cages. You make them out of storage cubes that you buy from Walmart and hold them together with zip ties. For a small amount of money you can make a massive custom ferret cage. Here's a video of one Does anyone here have a cage like this? I think it's a really good idea.

I like them in theory, but in practise they are a pain in the butt to clean. I have had two variations of a C&C cage so far, with Rolo's current cage really just more of a playpen type area with a cover. I didn't even bother with a floor this time around, since he is on tile anyway. I plan to build in a second level, but I have to wait until I've sewn the floor mat for the top floor. The one thing I will say, is that it is was awesome because I built the cage to fit under my desk, so the cage doesn't take up extra space in my room. Oh also, you have to watch because tiny ferrets can fit through the bar spacing. A friend of mine built a big C&C cage as well, only to find that her little gal and can easily fit through the bars. She had to layer chicken wire on top to keep her in. She also hates that they are a pain to clean. EDIT: LOL! Just saw the linked video! That is Rolo's C&C cage version 1.0

Hehe so it is!
Couldnt you make one with large doors like on a ferret nation and use bulldog clips to hold it closed? That would make them easier to clean.

Hehe so it is! Couldnt you make one with large doors like on a ferret nation and use bulldog clips to hold it closed? That would make them easier to clean. That was my original plan, I was going to make a gigantic bigger-than-FN-sized C&C cage at my parents home. The problem is you need SOO many grids to make a cage that size it gets very pricey. Plus you need to find a way to build in supports otherwise the floors will sag, since it doesn't have the cubes that are part of the door to hold it up. I found a FN second hand for $200 and got that instead. Soooo much easier to clean. Oh also, you have to make sure you clean up pee spills as soon as they happen, or it will actually eat the coroplast o.O Ditto with duct taping the corners of the coroplast cage floor, we found out the hard way when ferret pee leaked out onto the carpet >.< That being said, I'm loving my current set up. It has massive opening doors and fits perfectly in my room now, and gives Rolo a sort of "den" area. I can literally just sit inside it and clean up any messes. Something else I should mention, is if you have never had a ferret nation, you probably won't mind the cleaning lol. I just got so used to massive doors and easy access to everything that going back to a C&C cage after really sucked. Before I got the FN I really like the C&C cages.

I've got a couple like that. They're in the garage. What a pain to clean. The problem I find with cages is, if they're created to entertain as this one and a few others, they're an absolute pain to clean up and set up. They look fantastic and I was really pleased when I got a 3 level with tubes and everything turned in with a rescue...then I had to clean it. It's still in the garage As plain as the ferret nation is and really offers no stimulation (except whatever you add) they still provide one of the best cleaning solutions. I like the bottom one. It obviously has never had ferrets in it yet . Painted white like that. It looks wonderful, but ferrets are the only creatures I've ever seen that can put poop on the wall higher than the cage Ferret poop rivals industrial cement when trying to get off a surface ciao

Part of my cage is a cube cage. I did have to offset the grids to make the holes smaller when I got the girls. They could fit right through. I actuallymade large doors and a nice trap door for scooping the litter box. I'll try to get some pictures.

Would love to convert them into a cage. Send me a message! I turned an old wardrobe into a cage very very similar to the one in that picture and I would be happy to give you a step by step. It actually wasn't as much work as I thought it was going to be.

I would LOVE to make a cage like that for Sasha!! Not only is it spacious, but I imagine it would not be that expensive and it's very visually appealing. As far as the C&C cages go, I researched them while I was considering different pets (guinea pigs and bunnies in particular) and you would be surprised at how much they end up costing Also, I think for shelves you would have to use something besides the grids themselves... I think someone might have already mentioned that. The benefit is that you can custom make them very easily, but I'm not sure if it's worth it.
