This is just a generalized guideline on how much ferrets will wind up eating on a raw diet. Obviously, health, size, age, and activity level can cause it to vary. As a ferret gets into the raw diet, these amounts can be doubled for a couple of months. The same with winter appetites for a month or so. Females will eat an average of 1-3 ounces per day Males and average of 2-4 ounces per day. To give you a rough idea, one square inch of beef heart is one ounce. Something like chicken breast will be approx. 2sq inches, because it isn't as dense. Believe me, when starting out, a normal kitchen scale will be your best friend

I know this thread is from years ago but I have a related question. Say you have three females. Do you give them 9 oz every day? Or more? Basically how much do you give them so that they eat as much as they want, but you minimize waste.

Yes, you want to give them as much as they will eat. Adult females will eat about 1-3 oz a day, so 9 oz should be more than enough I think. I notice with my guys that they eat more throughout the day than they do at night, so I will put more in the morning and a little less in the PM meal.

It can be scarey, just how little females will eat. My two girls rarely eat two oz each a day. Juliet will eat a bite or two and then run off with pieces to stash. Mika eats at night. Since all of mine are free roam, I frequently check the stash spots and also during the day time, will offer a piece or two, just to make sure that the girls have eaten. Wynstan is a big stasher, and I have watched the girls, steal from his stash. The only times, that my girls eat alot is when they have soupies.
I tend to put more on the plate, then they need. Just to ensure that they have had their fill. After a little while, you get a feel for what they eat and there is less waste.
How long do you leave food out, before you throw it out? I put breakfast out around 7 or 8a.m. and then pick up, whatever is left (if anything) and put out their dinner around 7 or 8 p.m.

Depends what you're feeding...grinds, whole meats or prey. Yes, how little our wee girlies eat is absolutely terrifying ciao

I had a couple of tiny girls who in the summer would only eat about announce a day each. TBH I would start with an average of two oz each and go from there

Seems like very little to me, but then I am feeding a 30kg dog so I suppose there should be a big difference. Assuming big males each eat 4oz I could feed 6 to 8 with what my dog eats daily.
