We had been planning this cage since we brought Finn home, our cage was just far too small for the ferrets. I know it looks boring right now, we underestimated the amount of toys so we need to get many more. We looked into some commercial cages but they were just so limited as far as customization went so we opted to build ours! Our friends were moving out of town and were going to junk their wardrobe because it was just so big, we scored it for free, yes! The rest of the materials cost just under 50$.
I need some help with enrichment ideas. I am really aiming to take their natural instincts and add it into their homes. We have a dig box; I plan on frequently changing the digging material to keep it interesting. We also have a totally dark level with a box full of bedding and more bedding spread out on the floor (not shown), I'm hoping that feels "burrowy" enough for them. I'm in the process of making a sanitary feeding box for the food level. Hammocks will come, don't worry about that. I'm really struggling with the tall level (fifth picture), I have no idea what to put in here to fill up the space.
Its 6 feet tall, 4 feet wide and 2 feet deep! Ferret math time, how many fuzzies can we smoosh in here? lol.
My boyfriend for size reference.

Doors opened, one of the bottom sections is completely dark for day time snoozing, the other is storage.
Top level, complete with dig box.
Feeding level and litter box below.
A tall level! This is where I need ideas. What can I add in here to make it fun and safe?
The bottom level, this is where it is totally dark when the doors are closed. The left is storage, the right part they have access to. I'm sorry the floor is so dirty, the light had to catch every little bit of gunk! Its sawdust and ... dog hair.
And Finn because he is the photogenic one!
