Hi all,
I have just joined the forum as I want to move my ferrets to a complete meat diet and off the kibble.
My name is Emma and I have 5 ferrets. My 4 year old albino hob brothers - Zebedee and Gizmo. Pixie - 3 year old Sandy Jill. Smudge - 3 year old silver mitt jill. Jasmine - 3 year old polecat jill.
I had my polecat hob Scrumpy who was 5 years old pts on Friday, he had lymphoma and although we managed to reduce the mass greatly through medication, the mass was still affecting his breathing and he wasn't himself so I made the heart breaking decision to let him sleep.
I am feeling very lost without him at the moment He and his polecat brother Woody (who I lost suddenly to Leukaemia in April) were my first ferrets
At the moment they get meat pretty much daily as a supplement, but I'd like to get them completely off the kibble as I feel they would be much healthier.
Zebedee seems to have an intolerance to chicken so I haven't fed chicken for a few years. They all have beef, pork, lamb, rabbit, heart, chicks, mice, liver and lungs as an evening supplement to their kibble.
I notice that the forum recommends starting ferrets off on soup and gradually building from there. Do I need to start with soup or can I just go straight into meat?
Should I gradually increase meat and take away kibble or can I do a straight switch based on the %meat, bones and organ they need? This would be in place of kibble?
Thanks for your advice in advance
